Taylor Swift’s new album, “Midnights”, started on the right foot. The album got over 30 million streams in just less than 24 hours of its release, breaking a Spotify record. I honestly loved the album because of all the hidden messages inside the songs, this makes the album way more enjoyable in my opinion. Not long after the release of the album, Taylor announced her Eras Tour to the public. This was a piece of huge news since she has never done something like this before. The Eras tour would include songs from all of her albums, especially all her hit songs. Everyone was excited about this event but sadly not everyone was able to get tickets.
Taylor had a pre-sale for only VerifiedFans who would have received a code to purchase a ticket in the pre-sale. This pre-sale took place on November 15. I was able to get a pre-sale code and I was on the website about 30 minutes before the pre-sale started. Once I was able to select my ticket it kicked me out of the website, and I had to do it all over again, this was the same experience others were going through at the same time as me. I was lucky enough to get a ticket, but others can’t say the same, and that’s when things started to go bad. Tickets were being re-sold at up to 100,000 dollars which is a crazy amount of money. This made fans extra mad because not only did some not get a pre-sale code, but the ones who did couldn’t even afford the tickets. The only lucky people were the ones who were on the website early enough to buy the cheap tickets before re-sellers could buy them and increase the price.
Not even 24 hours after the pre-sale people were making threats to Ticketmaster. This made sense since people were upset that they couldn’t get tickets because of the high prices and because not everyone received their pre-sale codes. The day after the pre-sale, Ticketmaster announced that the general ticket sale was canceled because of, “Insufficient tickets” which makes zero sense since Ticketmaster should have not put all of the tickets on sale during the pre-sale. This made people way angrier, and the hopes of those who were waiting for the general sale were completely torn down, leaving thousands of people’s dreams in the ground. Taylor’s response to the people was not the kind of response that some enjoyed because she said that there is nothing she can do about it and that she was sorry for those who couldn’t get tickets.
Looking forward, I am excited to see how things turn out at the concerts and if Taylor Swift meets the expectations that all of her fans are setting for her. The fans even named the whole experience of getting tickets the “great war, so was winning the “great war” actually worth it, or was it all for nothing?
