First things first, “Blades of Glory” is a story about friendship, leadership, love, and inspiration. It starts with one of our main characters Jimmy MacElory (Jon Heder) . It shows him as a young child doing the thing he does which is figure skating. He is flawless even as an eight year old. It then shows his adopted father saying he is perfect and he will take him. Some background about MacElory is that he was an orphan adopted by Darren MacElory (William Fitchner) who is a billionaire who was now looking at the next thing which was child athletes. He was fascinated by them so he went into looking to adopt a child prodigy leading him to the one and only Jimmy.
After being adopted Jimmy then went into intense training as a child to perfect his already perfect talent that is figure skating. People questioned Darren’s parenting methods but it all stopped when Jimmy started to reek of old in figure skating competitions. He was so graceful that people would come all over the world just to see Jimmy MacElory perform from his outfits to amazing dance moves. He was an icon that would go down in figure skating history.
We then move onto our other main character, the one and only Chazz Micheal Michaels (Will Ferrell) skating outlaw. He was a revolutionary. He really heats up the ice stadium. He was a lone wolf and only went by his own rules, he did things other skaters would never dream of doing, like have loud and exciting music that the crowd went wild for.
Michaels and MacElroy are polar opposites! So in the end they were enemies going neck and neck at figure skating competitions, you could taste the tension in the air when both skaters were in the same room. And of course they made it obvious.
It all came crashing down on the winter Olympics though. Both MacElroy and Michael’s tied for first place. They were both destroyed. Both their egos took a huge hit! Then they started to have a verbal fight on stage while standing in front of thirty million people world wide, then of course like a fight it got physical. They pushed, punched, kicked until both of them calmed down and realized the mistake they made. It was total anarchy; the figure skating representatives were livid with both Michael’s and MacElory’s behaviors. They then came to the conclusion that both are going to be banned from men’s singles for life. It only got worse poor MacElory got disowned by his father and kicked out of his life forever Darren saw failure in Jimmy even though he won gold he said, “If I wanted him to share I would have bought him a brother”. As for Michaels he still was skating but for The Fairy tale on Ice as the evil wizard. Michael’s hated it and did the bare minimum but the boss only kept him because he was so beautiful on the ice.
Two years had passed since the ban and both Michaels and MacElory were miserable; they missed skating. They lived for the sport that brought them peace, elegance, and prosperity. Jimmy then went to his old coach to tell him how miserable he is. Jimmy also gained some valuable information from his stalker Hector. They had a heart to heart about how Jimmy can overcome this ban and do what he was made to do. They then figured out that Jimmy could compete with a female skater in pairs skating! So on the hunt for a female figure skater
As you may have guessed, MacEloy and Michaels crossed paths after two years. They fought and the coach Jimmy was talking about pairs figure skating and saw him and ideas struck. He was going to pair Michaels and MacElory together to make skating history as the first male male pairs.
It took some time but eventually both agreed because they missed the ice so much. Like every movie it was enemies to friends. MacElroy taught Michaels friendship and companionship. And Micheal taught MacElroy how to be confident.
In the end of the movie Chazz and Jimmy become best friends after their challenges of facing people with opinions they just can’t keep to themselves.
The reason why this is the best movie ever made is because it shows the challenges of friendship and that in the end love wins.
