When my mom’s making pasta for dinner it is a very big debate on what shape to cook, which one goes best with the sauce? Is there sauce? and will it be good with just butter? All questions need to be asked before picking the type of pasta. So I decided to rate my top ten pasta shapes based on my opinion on what pasta is the best. So here’s my rating 10-1 10 being the worst, 1 being the best.
10: Elbows
I put elbows at the bottom of my list because I find them extremely hard to eat. Meaning I find it difficult to get them on my fork or spoon. They are also this low because I only find them good in a baked mac and cheese, not with any other topping.
9: Spaghetti
This is a controversial one but to me spaghetti deserves this spot. I find this is because they are very easy to over cook, break apart, and clump together making it very hard to serve. Also sauce does not stick to the noodle very well, therefore making it very hard to eat and leading to a mess after eating.
8: Angel Hair
This one is almost the same as the one above but if I had to choose one to eat with dinner it would have to be angel hair over spaghetti, any day. I find this one also very hard to serve as it can easily be over cooked and once again clumps together. However this one got a higher rating because it is easier to eat, leaving less of a mess behind.
7: Linguine
I put linguine here because if I had to pick a noodle, it would be linguine. This is because I find this noodle can hold a sauce very well. It clumps together less than the other noodles on this list, however out of any of the pasta on this list, it would never be my first choice.
6: Shells
At number 6 I would have to pick shells, this is because I find them more enjoyable mixed or tossed in a sauce, they are able to hold the sauce better than some shapes. I also find them easier to eat. Shells are much harder to over cook, making it easier to get the perfect texture on your pasta. They are also very good in a pasta salad.
5: Bow Tie
Coming in right in the middle would have to be a Bowtie, this is because I really do enjoy this shape because it’s fun, something different other than just the other boring shapes. However they are only good in butter, not any other sauce therefore making them lower on my list.
4: Rotini
Sitting at number 4 is rotini. I find this shape very fun with their corkscrew look. This shape makes them great at picking up and holding the sauce they are in, however. Their downside is in that they are not that enjoyable with just butter and cheese. They also get mushy way fast for my liking.
3: Ziti
The first one in the top 3 is ……. Ziti! I picked ziti for number 3 because even though I find them one of the best shapes ever they do have their downsides. This includes that the sauce can slip off them ,however, they are just so good with butter it makes up for it.
2: Penne
I find this pasta shape almost perfect with the way it is able to hold the sauce, tastes good with anything on it, and it is always cooked to perfection. However, I find it can be very hard to stab sometimes making it not the easiest to eat.
1: Rigatoni
Coming in at number 1 aka the best pasta shape is …….. Rigatoni! This shape is just the best good with anything, holds the sauce so well, easy to eat, and always cooked perfectly.
