The 2024-2025 New York City Rockettes season is just around the corner! The Rockettes are a group of women dancers who are based in New York City, more specifically they have their stage in the iconic Rockefeller Center. Their winter shows are an iconic attraction of the city, and there have been countless movies based off of them since the early 20th century.
According to Britannica, The Rockettes became a small group in 1925, just starting as a small group of girls from Missouri. They eventually were centered in Manhattan and drew audiences in with their intense kick lines and their in-sync movements. When Radio City Music Hall opened in Rockefeller Center in 1932, the Rockettes became a powerful American attraction to fans of the theater and performing arts.
Now, the Rockettes only perform their Christmas Spectacular annually. It is what they are known for. The show contains remarkable sets and storytelling through dance. Mascotted characters like gingerbread men and Nutcrackers also make appearances in this show, and it also comes with a dazzling light and visual effects show.
The Rockettes require a high-end dance call in their studio across from Radio City. The process has specifics like height and age requirements, and preferably years of extensive dance training. The auditions for their “Christmas Spectacular” show are generally held in early April.
Their “Christmas Spectacular” show will run from November 8, 2024, to January 5, 2025, says the official Radio City Rockettes website, and tickets are available on that website, or they typically sell them at the box office right next to the theater.
