2022 Grammys Recap

The Grammys of 2022 involved many outstanding performances and winners. From jokes about ‘The Oscars Slap’ to Doja Cat’s trip to the bathroom causing her to almost miss her award, there is much to discuss about this year’s Grammys. There were many iconic performances and wins that will be remembered for years to come. A few of the biggest winners this year included Jon Batiste, Silk Sonic, Olivia Rodrigo, and The Foo Fighters. With performances from stars like Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, BTS, Brandi Carlile, and many more, the audience at the Grammys this year was sure to be constantly engaged.

There were many artists featured throughout the Grammys this year. Take a look at some of the highlighted winners and performers at this year’s awards ceremony:

Jon Batiste 

Batiste won a total of five Grammys during this year’s ceremony. In fact, he was the biggest winner of the night in terms of awards. Batiste took home Grammys for Best American roots performance, Best American roots song, Best score soundtrack for visual media, best music video, and most of all Album of the year. His performances for “Cry,” music video for “Freedom,” and work on Soul, led Batiste to his win. Jon Batiste won album of the year for his album “We Are” and is the first Black artist to win Album of the Year since 2008.

Silk Sonic

The iconic R&B duo is made up of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak encountered true success at this year’s Grammy awards. Silk Sonic started off the night with an incredible performance of their song “777,” truly setting the tone for the rest of the evening. The two had what many would call a “clean sweep,” winning four awards for their hit “Leave The Door Open.” Mars and .Paak won Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, Record Of The Year, and Song of the year. 

Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo’s presence at the Grammys was truly one to be remembered. After making her debut on the Grammys’ stage performing her hit song “Drivers License,” she proceeded to receive three awards. At the age of just nineteen, the success she has achieved is truly remarkable. Rodrigo was awarded Best pop vocal album (“SOUR”), Best pop solo performance (“Drivers License”), and Best new artist.

Foo Fighters

At the 2022 Grammy awards, the Foo Fighters were faced with a somewhat bittersweet circumstance. This being the fact that fellow bandmate of the Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins, had recently passed away. The group was unable to attend the award ceremony, but still won and received three Grammys. The Foo Fighters won Best Rock Performance (“Making a Fire”), Best Rock Song (“Waiting on a War”), and Best Rock Album (“Medicine at Midnight”). These awards were very much deserved considering the band’s overall success, despite their recent tragedy. Later on that night, Taylor Hawkins was memorialized in a thoughtful tribute.

Featured Performers:

As mentioned previously, the night’s tribute to performers who had passed became a truly cherished aspect of this year’s ceremony. The tribute opened with a memorial of Taylor Hawkins and finished with the acknowledgment of Stephen Sondheim’s passing. Throughout the tribute, broadway icons, Leslie Odom Jr., Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Rachel Zegler left the audience fulfilled with their astounding performance. Performer Leslie Odom Jr. is best known for his role as Aaron Burr in the hit musical “Hamilton.” Tony Award-winning Ben Platt, most known for his role as Evan Hansen in the musical “Dear Evan Hansen, is also seen during this tribute. Cynthia Erivo is also featured. She is well known for playing Celie in “The Color Purple.” Lastly, Rachel Zegler, who has recently entered the entertainment industry, blew the crowd away with outstanding vocals. She is known for her performance as Maria in “West Side Story.”
